Canadian Program Graduates

Who This Pathway is For

This pathway is for graduates of a Canadian-accredited physiotherapy program, no matter when you graduated.

If you graduated more than five years ago, you may need to show that your practice is current.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Have completed a program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC) or its predecessor.
  • Be legally allowed to work in Canada.
  • Meet the requirements for either:
    • the Practicing Register, or
    • the Conditional Register – Resident License

Pathway Options

Option 1 – Practicing Register

You may apply to the Practising Register if you:

  • Have passed the Canadian Physiotherapy Exam (CPTE), and
  • Met all other application requirements listed below.

Option 2 – Conditional Register – Resident License

You may apply for a Conditional Resident Licence if you:

  • Have not yet completed the CPTE, and
  • Meet the criteria in the NSRPT policy for Conditional Resident Licenses

These requirements include: 

  • An approved supervision agreement, and
  • A signed offer of employment in Nova Scotia, and
  • Proof that you are registered to write the next available Canadian Physiotherapy Exam (CPTE) and will write it within the required timeframe.

This licence:

  • Is valid for a maximum of 12 months, and
  • Cannot be renewed.

What You’ll Need

  • Government-issued photo identification
  • Proof that you are legally allowed to work in Canada.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, comnpleted within 6 months of submitting your application.
  • Proof of professional liability insurance.
  • Completed declarations about your professional and legal history.

If you are applying for a Conditional Resident Licence, you must also provide:

  • A signed supervision agreement.
  • A signed offer of employment in Nova Scotia.

To apply:

  1. Decide whether you are applying to the Practising Register or the Conditional Register.
  2. Gather all required documents.
  3. Create an account on the NSRPT online application portal.
  4. Complete the application form and upload your required documents.
  5. Pay any applicable fees.
  6. Await for confirmation and next steps.
