Temporary Licenses
Who This Pathway is For
Temporary Registration is available to physiotherapists who are currently licensed in another Canadian jurisdiction and wish to practise in Nova Scotia for a specific, time-limited purpose. Examples include:
- Cross-Border Practice – Providing short-term care to Nova Scotia patients (in person or tele-rehab) while based in another province or territory.
- Special Events – Providing physiotherapy services at tournaments, competitions, or public events.
- Course Participation/Instruction – Teaching or attending a course with a clinical component.
- Emergency Staffing – Providing services during a declared state of emergency.
Registration Category
Temporary registrants are placed on the Conditional Register and issued a temporary licence.
- Conditions will be tailored to the approved purpose and dates.
- The licence is valid only for the stated purpose and timeframe.
Eligibility
You must:
- Hold a current, unrestricted licence in another Canadian jurisdiction.
- Be in good standing (no suspension or open investigation).
- Have a Regulatory History Form sent directly to NSRPT from your home regulator.
- Provide proof of professional liability insurance.
- Provide government-issued photo identification.
- State your reason for request (include event/course name, dates, or other purpose details).
- Complete all required declarations.
- Pay applicable fees (temporary and cross-border fees are non-refundable).
Additional Scenario-Specific Details
- Cross-Border Practice – Include the patient population, service location(s), and timeframe in your reason statement.
- Special Events – Include the event name, date(s), location(s), and your role.
- Course Participation/Instruction – Include the course name, provider, dates, and details of any clinical component.
- Emergency Staffing – Include the nature of the emergency and anticipated dates of practice.
